Biomineralized Sn-based multiphasic nanostructures for Li-ion battery electrodes.
A method for preparing multiphasic hollow rods consisting of nanoscale Sn-based materials through a thermochemical reduction process involving bacteria and Sn oxides is reported. This facile process involves the bacteria-mediated synthesis of SnO(2) nanoparticles that form on bacterial surfaces used as templates at room temperature. The subsequent template removal proceeds via a reduction of th...
متن کاملImproving the electrochemical performance of organic Li-ion battery electrodes.
Dilithium benzenediacrylate was prepared and investigated as an example of a readily available organic electrode material for lithium-ion batteries. Its poor conductive properties were overcome by a method of carbon-coating in the liquid state, resulting in enhanced cycling performance, displaying a reversible capacity of 180 mA h g(-1).
متن کاملInvestigation of particle isolation in Li-ion battery electrodes using Li NMR spectroscopy
Li MAS NMR spectroscopy was used to study the failure mechanisms of LiNi0.8Co0.15Al0.05O2 electrodes in Li-ion cells. Three sets of electrodes with different degrees of power fade (0%, 9% and 23%) were studied. The three electrodes were charged to various states of charge (0%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100%) in pouch cells which were subsequently disassembled for NMR analysis. The lithium NMR shifts of...
متن کاملMicrostructural Analysis of the Effects of Thermal Runaway on Li-Ion and Na-Ion Battery Electrodes
Thermal runaway is a phenomenon that occurs due to self-sustaining reactions within batteries at elevated temperatures resulting in catastrophic failure. Here, the thermal runaway process is studied for a Li-ion and Na-ion pouch cells of similar energy density (10.5 Wh, 12 Wh, respectively) using accelerating rate calorimetry (ARC). Both cells were constructed with a z-fold configuration, with ...
متن کاملFast microwave treatments of single source alkoxides for nanostructured Li-ion battery electrodes.
Microwave or ultrasonic treatment of metal alkoxides presents a fast, low cost route to both anode and cathode nanomaterials for Li-ion battery applications. Here, we demonstrate the formation of LiMPO4 (M = Fe, Mn) and Mn3O4 nanostructures via this simple route which exhibit excellent electrochemical performances. This approach opens up a new avenue for the targeted design of nanostructured ma...
